Basketball Game Preview: Penn Cambria Panthers vs. Tyrone Golden Eagles

Penn Cambria and Tyrone are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Penn Cambria Panthers will face off against the Tyrone Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Penn Cambria is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They really took it to Mount Union for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-49 victory. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Trojans are ranked 549th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gavin Harrold had a dynamite game for Penn Cambria, shooting 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave Harrold a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Rabish, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 17 points.

Meanwhile, Tyrone had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They strolled past the Little Lions with points to spare, taking the game 80-66.

Penn Cambria pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games. As for Tyrone, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.

Penn Cambria was taken down by Tyrone 77-43 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Penn Cambria was down 53-18.
