Basketball Recap: Riverside's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Riverside came into Monday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Bishop Snyder Cardinals by a score of 51-44 on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Generals' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 377th, while the Cardinals are ranked 115th).

Bishop Snyder's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Shelby Gaines, who went 9 for 12 en route to 18 points along with eight boards and three steals, and Bryonna Grimes, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Gaines has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Knight, who put up five points and nine rebounds.

Riverside's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12. As for Bishop Snyder, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-7.

Riverside has already played their next game (against Fletcher), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bishop Snyder won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Clay at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Snyder is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
