Baseball Recap: Grosse Ile Red Devils vs. Huron Chiefs

Grosse Ile had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it nine. They lost 23-6 to the Huron Chiefs. If the Red Devils were looking for revenge after losing 11-0 to the Chiefs when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Sam Weise was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

As for Huron, the win keeps they at an undefeated 14-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average this season.

On Huron's side, Cash Muzzy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Muzzy has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Huron got a massive performance out of Jackson Surma, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those five runs gave Surma a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Banas, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
