Baseball Game Preview: South Broward Bulldogs vs. Cooper City Cowboys

The South Broward Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Cooper City Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games South Broward has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

South Broward fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Tohopekaliga on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-6. The Bulldogs' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Joshua Jakubowicz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, Francisco Gomez-Haedo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Willy Aybar also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Cooper City came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Seahawks.

Cooper City also got a great performance from Kevin McCormick as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. McCormick has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

Cooper City's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for South Broward, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Broward has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cooper City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
