Softball Recap: Murphysboro Has No Trouble Against Chester

Murphysboro won the last time they faced Chester and things went their way on Saturday too. The Red Devils put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 7-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Devils.

Ayla Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Macey Alexander was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Murphysboro lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Murphysboro's victory bumped their record up to 9-19. As for Chester, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-9 record this season.

As of now, neither Murphysboro nor Chester have any future games scheduled.
