Basketball Game Preview: Warwick Wildcats vs. Washingtonville Wizards

The Warwick Wildcats will square off against the Washingtonville Wizards at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Warwick has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Washingtonville will arrive with seven straight wins.

Warwick is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since March 2, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Cornwall Central by a score of 51-49. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while the Dragons are ranked 129th).

Meanwhile, Washingtonville beat Valley Central 60-49 on Friday.

Washingtonville pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Warwick, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.

Warwick didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Washingtonville in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 52-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Warwick since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
