Basketball Recap: Willow Canyon Victorious

It was a proper cat-fight when Willow Canyon faced off against Cienega on Friday. The Willow Canyon Wildcats secured an 84-79 W over the Cienega Bobcats.

Willow Canyon found their leader in freshman Maurice Carter II, who went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 33 points and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Carter II has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleel Kelly, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards.

Willow Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Cienega's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Noyes, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 18 points and five boards. Noyes continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Rodgers, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 19 points.

Willow Canyon's victory bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Cienega, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Willow Canyon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 61-45 loss against Mesa on the 4th. As for Cienega, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 82-59 defeat against Prescott on the 4th.
