Basketball Recap: Middleburgh Falls Despite Big Games from Kaylynn Layton and Payton Yung

Middleburgh lost against Mekeel Christian Academy back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Middleburgh Knights fell 49-36 to the Mekeel Christian Academy Lions.

Payton Yung and Kaylynn Layton certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Yung posted 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Layton dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. Layton continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.

Even though they lost, Middleburgh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Middleburgh's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Mekeel Christian Academy, their win ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-9.

Middleburgh has already played their next matchup (against Fonda-Fultonville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mekeel Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 40-38 victory against Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons on the 22nd.
