Softball Game Preview: Columbia Central Lions vs. Peabody Golden Tide

The Columbia Central Lions will be taking part in a tournament against the Peabody Golden Tide at 8:45 a.m. on Monday. Columbia Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.4 runs per game this season.

Columbia Central fell victim to Lincoln County and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. The loss was the Lions' first of the season.

Bailey Lovell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Peabody didn't have quite enough to beat Trinity Christian Academy on Friday and fell 12-11.

Alexis Wilson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Gabby Shepherd was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Columbia Central fell to 7-1. As for Peabody, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Peabody's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Columbia Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Peabody, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Columbia Central's sizable advantage in that area, Peabody will need to find a way to close that gap.
