Baseball Recap: Southampton Academy Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against TEACH Homeschool, Southampton Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Halifax Academy Vikings as they made off with a 14-4 victory. Considering the Raiders have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Landon Cushing made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Southampton Academy let Emerson Vaughan and Grant Applewhite run wild. Vaughan got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Applewhite got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Applewhite is becoming a predictor of Southampton Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Whitehead, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Southampton Academy pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Halifax Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Southampton Academy will face off against Tidewater Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. Halifax Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
