Softball Recap: Elmwood Has No Trouble Against Van Buren

After losing to Van Buren the last time they met, Elmwood decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Royals put the hurt on the Black Knights with a sharp 16-3 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won nine games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Addi Hoffman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Libbie Tyson, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bristol Evans, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Elmwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Elmwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Van Buren, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7.

Coincidentally, Elmwood and Van Buren will both be playing Tinora the next time they take the field. The Royals will head out to face the Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Black Knights will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
