Softball Game Preview: Rahway Indians vs. Piscataway Chiefs

The Rahway Indians will square off against the Piscataway Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rahway has three straight wins, Piscataway has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Rahway made easy work of Plainfield and carried off a 19-2 victory. Fans of the Indians have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Jaylynn Soto was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Soto was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Yasmin Garcia was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Danielle Maher, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Rahway hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Piscataway lost 15-5 to Carteret on Wednesday.

Piscataway's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Rahway, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.

Rahway took their victory against Piscataway when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Chiefs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
