Basketball Game Preview: South O'Brien Wolverines vs. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Hawks

The South O'Brien Wolverines will challenge the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South O'Brien will be strutting in after a win while Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn will be coming in after a loss.

Last Friday, South O'Brien earned a 62-51 victory over West Sioux. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Falcons are ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn came up short against Hinton on Friday and fell 62-49. The Hawks have struggled against the Blackhawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

South O'Brien has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Everything came up roses for South O'Brien against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 68-40 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South O'Brien since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
