Basketball Recap: Kemper Academy Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Kemper Academy and Sylva Bay Academy, and Sylva Bay Academy kept the tradition alive. The Rams were beaten by the Saints 53-26 on Thursday. The Rams lost against the Saints in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 52-46 score last time.

Sylva Bay Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily Hatcher led the charge by putting up 17 points. The matchup was Hatcher's third in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Kynlee Bennett, who posted 13 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Kemper Academy dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sylva Bay Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Coming up, Sylva Bay Academy will head out to take on Newton County Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kemper Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Saints' game: after the Saints face off against Stringer, they'll take on Kemper Academy again at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st.
