Recap: Canyon Eagles vs. Dumas Demons
After a string of five wins, The Canyon Eagles''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Dumas by a score of 45-42. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Canyon came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Dumas is ranked 511th).
When it comes to explaining why Canyon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Christian Mcguire. Despite the final result, he rushed for 243 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. Samuel Johnson was another key contributor, rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Dumas, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon will challenge Pampa at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pampa is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Dumas, they will head out on the road to face off against Hereford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
