Basketball Recap: Addy Odille's Big Game Can't Quite Lead John F. Kennedy Catholic over Rootstown

After flying high against Jefferson Area last Monday, John F. Kennedy Catholic came back down to earth. The John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles lost to the Rootstown Rovers on the road by a 61-43 margin on Wednesday. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Rovers recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

John F. Kennedy Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Addy Odille, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Odille is becoming a predictor of John F. Kennedy Catholic's success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Hannah Myers was another key player, putting up four points along with 13 boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, John F. Kennedy Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Addy Germann, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 28 points and six steals for Rootstown. Germann has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadia Lough, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

John F. Kennedy Catholic's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3. As for Rootstown, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.

When John F. Kennedy Catholic and Rootstown next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. John F. Kennedy Catholic will try to stop Aquinas' three-game winning streak when the meet at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, Rootstown will try to stop Smithville's ten-game winning streak when the meet at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
