Marshwood is 0-9 against Biddeford since May of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Hawks will head out to face off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Marshwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Marshwood needed a bit of extra time to put away Scarborough. They came out on top against the Red Storm by a score of 10-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.
Emily Hester spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 20 Ks.
On the hitting side, Marshwood got a massive performance out of Keira Keaveny, who went 4-for-6 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Keaveny is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Dorthy Ryan was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Marshwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Biddeford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Noble with a sharp 16-1 win on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Tigers' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Madi Roy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Roy was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Corinne Ramunno and Ayla Lagasse did most of the damage at the plate: Ramunno went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Lagasse went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Ramunno has posted since back in May of 2024. Maddie Blais also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Biddeford's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.9 runs over those games. As for Marshwood, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Marshwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Biddeford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Marshwood might still be hurting after the 15-6 loss they got from Biddeford in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
