Baseball Game Preview: Coronado Cougars vs. Clark Chargers

The Coronado Cougars will head out to face off against the Clark Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Coronado saw some tournament action on Thursday. They came up short against Bishop Amat, falling 9-2. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clark). They blew past Campbell Hall 17-6 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ryland Gregorich made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Clark is undefeated when Gregorich allows one or fewer hits, but 6-7 otherwise. Gregorich was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, Clark got a massive performance out of Kellen Anunson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Anunson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hudson Fraidenburg, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

Clark is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

Coronado took their win against Clark in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
