Emily Lockman of Norco, Nisa Ontiveros of Ridgeview (Bakersfield) and Cheridan Hawkins of Anderson captured Player of the Year Honors on the MaxPreps California All-State Teams released this week.

Lockman is the overall MVP after leading Norco to the Southern Section Division I championship with a 6-4 win over Santiago (Corona). Lockman, who was also the California Gatorade Player of the Year, went 31-2 on the season with 21 shutouts. Both marks ranked No. 1 in the state this year.
Ontiveros earned Player of the Year honors from the Bakersfield Californian for the second-straight season. The pitcher/first baseman posted a 24-2 record while leading her team to a runner-up finish in the Central Section Division III playoffs. She also batted .500 with 15 home runs.
Hawkins ranked as the top strikeout pitcher in the state with 440, nearly 100 more than the No. 2 pitcher on the list. She was the Northern Section Player of the Year for a second-straight season and also batted .551 on the year.
Teri Johnson of Logan (Union City) earns MaxPreps Coach of the Year honors after leading the Colts to the North Coast Section Division I championship with a 1-0 win over Amador Valley. The victory knocked off a Dons team that was ranked No. 1 in the country at the time. Logan, which finished 24-1, suffered its only loss of the season early in the year against Amador Valley.
The All-state teams consist of a 30-member overall first team and a 30-member second team. There is also a 30-member Medium Schools Team consisting of players from schools that generally have an enrollment between 1,000 and 2,000 students. A 30-member Small Schools team consists of players from schools with an enrollment of less than 1,000 students.
