Baseball Game Preview: Falls Church Jaguars vs. Mount Vernon Majors

The Falls Church Jaguars will face off against the Mount Vernon Majors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Falls Church took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Hayfield, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Jaguars won by a run and slipped past the Hawks 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jaguars have posted since April 12, 2024.

Winston Stewart was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Stefin Schneider was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon hadn't done well against Edison recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Majors never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Majors.

Mount Vernon's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Noah Toy, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits Toy has posted since back in March of 2024. Hudson Seyfried also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Falls Church's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-3. As for Mount Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Falls Church has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mount Vernon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
