Softball Recap: Hamilton County Comes Up Short

Hamilton County extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 12-15 in the process. They fell 4-1 to the Red Bud Musketeers. If the Foxes were looking for revenge after losing 5-1 to the Musketeers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Hamilton County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rayci Phelps, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Red Bud, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Red Bud's side, Olivia Geralds made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). Geralds has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hamilton County will head out to challenge Carmi-White County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Red Bud, they will venture away from home to take on O'Fallon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Musketeers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
