Basketball Game Preview: Florida Prep Falcons vs. St. Edward's Pirates

The Florida Prep Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the St. Edward's Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Florida Prep will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

On Monday, Florida Prep got the win against Brevard Christian by a conclusive 69-46. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, St. Edward's didn't have quite enough to beat Lighthouse Private Christian Academy on Saturday and fell 67-65.

Florida Prep will have to keep a close watch on Gary Anderson and Cody Simmonds, a pair of players who had a big impact on St. Edward's prior game. Anderson dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 15 rebounds, and ten blocks, while Simmonds dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Simmonds' afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Cole Register was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, St. Edward's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games.

Florida Prep's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for St. Edward's, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Florida Prep was able to grind out a solid win over St. Edward's in their previous matchup back in February of 2020, winning 52-41. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was St. Edward's Aj Jennings, who went 7 for 17 on his way to 20 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be easier for Florida Prep to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
