Softball Game Preview: Sacred Heart of Jesus Comets vs. St. Mary's Academy Belles

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Comets will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary's Academy Belles at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sacred Heart of Jesus will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Sacred Heart of Jesus barely beat St. Bernard the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Sacred Heart of Jesus was the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over St. Bernard on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Comets' most dominant win of the season so far.

Trinity Godson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melania Saborio, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Justin Lopez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Sacred Heart of Jesus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Glendale, falling 18-3.

Sacred Heart of Jesus' record now sits at 3-7. As for St. Mary's Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything went Sacred Heart of Jesus' way against St. Mary's Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Sacred Heart of Jesus made off with a 23-0 victory.
