Basketball Recap: Hubbertville Comes Up Short at Home Against Brilliant + How To Watch

Hubbertville unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. The matchup between the Lions and the Brilliant Tigers didn't end well, with the Lions falling 48-31. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 50-46 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Addison Tucker, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 14 points. Tucker is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games she's played dating back to last season. Karlee Pollard was another key player, putting up eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Hadlee Sanderson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Brilliant, almost dropping a double-double with 32 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Sanderson a new career-high in steals (six). Laine Johnson also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

The win (which was Brilliant's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Hubbertville has already played their next contest, a 49-46 victory against South Lamar on the 4th. As for Brilliant, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-44 win against Lynn on the 5th.
