League recap: Salem stuns Bogue Chitto in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Salem, who defeated 116th ranked Bogue Chitto, 21-20. Austin Fazande ran for 56 yards and caught 1 pass for 49 yards during the win.

Adding to the longest winning streak in 1A Region 4 this week, Stringer beat Sacred Heart 41-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Red Devils.

Thomas Garrity threw for 214 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Matt Gay was a key player and the best on defense this week as Lumberton topped Mount Olive. He recorded 1 fumble.

Tevin Moore was a force in the backfield as Stringer bested the Crusaders.

Moore provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Marlon Brannan's team beat Sacred Heart. He completed 4 passes for 74 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 239 yards. Moore's key target this week was Zack Alridge, who caught 2 passes for 49 yards.

Garrity put up the best numbers through the air as Cathedral topped Dexter. Garrity's favorite target this week was Jardarius Anderson, who caught 3 passes for 70 yards.

The Green Wave's Garrity and Anderson led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Garrity has thrown for 3,026 yards this season, while Anderson has 69 catches for 1,257 yards. Moore from the Red Devils leads the league in rushing with 1,788 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Stringer takes on second place Bogue Chitto. Stringer bested the Crusaders last week, while the Bobcats fell to the Wildcats.

Brock Roberts of the Bogue Chitto is only 71 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 131 carries Roberts has accumulated 929 yard this year.

Going into this week's game against the Bulldogs, Resurrection Catholic's Larry Sisson needs 78 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. Accruing a total of 18 touchdowns this year, Sisson has thrown for 1,922 yards with 7 interceptions.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Panthers take on Hinds County Agricultural. Lumberton has allowed 155 points this season, while the Bulldogs have given up 137. Brian Ford's team allowed 14 points last week as it defeated the Pirates.

Stringer took down Sacred Heart 41-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Moore ran for 239 yards in the win.
