Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Starts Season with Win at Home + How To Watch

St. Mary took care of business in their home opener on Thursday. They came out on top against the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs by a score of 40-30. The victory continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Janelle Gyampo went supernova, dropping a double-double with ten points and 14 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last seven games she's played dating back to last season. Mia Gregg-Kearns was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

St. Mary's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Looking ahead, St. Mary's won't have much time to rest: their next game is against St. Thomas More Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wake Christian Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while.
