Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Widefield's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Widefield came out on top against Mesa Ridge on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 18-run third inning. The Gladiators were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the Grizzlies. The result was nothing new for the Gladiators, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Olivia McEwen was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Hall, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Widefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Widefield is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 9-1-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Mesa Ridge, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.

Coming up, Widefield will host Air Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Gladiators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Kadets have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Mesa Ridge, they are taking a road trip to challenge Palmer at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Terrors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.6 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
