Softball Recap: Thomasville Comes Up Short

Thomasville extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-7. They came up short against the Wheatmore Warriors, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Wednesday.

As for Wheatmore, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

For Wheatmore's part, Kenzie Hege and Emma Gower made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hege tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gower pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Hege went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Gower went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Wheatmore got a massive performance out of Makenna Lawrence, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Tuft, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Thomasville will challenge West Davidson at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wheatmore, they will face off against Southwest Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cowboys have averaged an impressive 14.7 runs per game this season.
