Basketball Recap: Blanche Ely Triumphs

Blanche Ely won the last time they faced Coral Springs, and Trezure Reese did her part to make sure it happened again. The Blanche Ely Tigers took down the Coral Springs Colts 53-38 on Tuesday thanks in part to Reese, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last three games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Deanna Lobban, who posted nine points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Coral Springs' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janelle Swaby, who went 5 of 6 en route to 14 points and five boards. Swaby continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nethania Noel-Jeune, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 11 points and five rebounds.

Blanche Ely's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Coral Springs, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-7.

Blanche Ely and Coral Springs should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Blanche Ely (ranked 71st) will meet Deerfield Beach (ranked 243rd) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Coral Springs will square off against Coral Glades at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday up 366 places (145 vs. 511).
