Basketball Recap: Fleming Takes a Loss

If Fleming was riding high fresh off their 61-33 takedown of Genoa-Hugo/Karval last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fleming Wildcats took a hard 56-40 fall against the Stratton Eagles on Thursday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Fleming saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jaron Monroe went 9 of 12 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Monroe has scored all season.

Stratton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ricky Schillig out in front who went 7 for 17 en route to 17 points along with seven boards and five blocks. The dominant performance gave Schillig a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Von Isenbart, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 assists.

Fleming's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Stratton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-5.

Fleming will take on Union Colony Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Fleming is facing Union Colony Prep at the right time seeing as Union Colony Prep is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Stratton, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Kit Carson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Stratton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
