Basketball Recap: Southern Lee Comes Up Short

Southern Lee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-53 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hoke County Bucks. The Cavaliers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bucks earlier this season, when they won 52-36.

Karmen Campbell was a one-woman wrecking crew for Hoke County as she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. Campbell has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jada Bowers, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.

Southern Lee's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Hoke County, their victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-17.

Southern Lee and Hoke County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Southern Lee will take on Richmond at 6:00 p.m. on Monday down 412 places (445 vs. 33). Meanwhile, Hoke County (ranked 431st) will meet Union Pines (ranked 47th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
