Football Recap: John Jay Skates Past Suffern with Ease

John Jay got themselves on the board against Suffern on Friday, but Suffern never followed suit. They breezed past the Mounties to the tune of 35-0. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Mounties are ranked 240th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead John Jay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sal Zaffuto, who rushed for 44 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Cruz Calcagni helped out on the ground, rushing for 94 yards.

Another reason for the win was John Jay's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Nicholas Procaccino, Michael Forlivio, and Caden McCree-Salazar, who each picked up one sack apiece.

John Jay's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Suffern, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
