Basketball Recap: Tonopah Valley Phoenix vs. Kingman Bulldogs

Tonopah Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They were dealt a 48-14 defeat at the hands of the Kingman Bulldogs. The Phoenix lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 40-39 score last time.

Kiamora Melton was Tonopah Valley's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Leading Kingman to victory were Jaynell Martin and Ava Silas. Martin went 5 for 10 on her way to 12 points along with six boards and five steals, while Silas posted eight points and six steals. Kingman is undefeated when Martin posts five or more steals, but 5-10 otherwise. Layla Martin also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Tonopah Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Kingman, their record is now 8-10.

Tonopah Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 31-25 defeat against River Valley on the 27th. Kingman has also already played their next game, a 60-25 loss against Yuma Catholic on the 27th.
