Baseball Game Preview: Oviedo Lions vs. Viera Hawks

The Oviedo Lions will square off against the Viera Hawks at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Oviedo beats Viera with seven runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Oviedo came out on top against Beachside by a score of 7-4 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Christian Lynch looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Oviedo is undefeated when Lynch allowstwo or fewer hits, but 3-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Juan Velez was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Meanwhile, Viera has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.76 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They skirted past Bartram Trail 16-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since February 18th.

Oviedo's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Viera, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Oviedo skirted past Viera 3-2 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oviedo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
