Baseball Game Preview: Stigler Panthers vs. Wilburton Diggers

Stigler is a perfect 9-0 against Wilburton since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Stigler Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wilburton Diggers at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

Wilburton will be up against a hot Stigler squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Stigler was the clear victors by a 33-5 margin over Poteau on Tuesday. Fans of the Panthers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Evan Williams was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Hodges, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Stigler always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .816. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, while Wilburton put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Quinton. Wilburton blew past Quinton 10-0. The Diggers haven't had any issues with the Savages recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Stigler's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wilburton, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Stigler took their victory against Wilburton in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 8-0. Will Stigler repeat their success, or does Wilburton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
