Basketball Game Preview: San Simon Longhorns vs. Patagonia Lobos

The San Simon Longhorns will take on the Patagonia Lobos at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Patagonia took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on San Simon, who comes in off a win.

San Simon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by The Gregory School to the tune of 48-20 on Tuesday. With the Longhorns ahead 34-9 at the half, the game was all but over already.

San Simon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Betsabe Castellanos led the charge by putting up 12 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Castellanos a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hollie Keil, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

San Simon was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Gregory School only racked up four assists.

Meanwhile, Patagonia was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a blow against Valley Union, falling 48-19.

San Simon's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Patagonia, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

San Simon strolled past Patagonia when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 43-27. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Patagonia's Emma Lewton, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points along with six steals and three blocks.
