Softball Game Preview: San Pedro Pirates vs. Mira Costa Mustangs

The San Pedro Pirates will head out to square off against the Mira Costa Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. San Pedro is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

San Pedro made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Carson, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Colts on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Pirates have posted against the Colts since May 27, 2021.

Caroline Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, San Pedro got a massive performance out of Brianna Rodela, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Rodela has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dahlia Davila, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Rodela wasn't the only one making solid contact: San Pedro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Mira Costa was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They lost 11-2 to Palos Verdes. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mustangs have suffered against the Sea Kings since April 12, 2019.

San Pedro's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Mira Costa, they dropped their record down to 4-14 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

San Pedro took their victory against Mira Costa in their previous meeting back in March of 2020 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
