Volleyball Recap: Leigh Longhorns vs. Branham Bruins
Leigh and Branham squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Leigh had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Bruins by a score of 3-2. That makes it the first time this season the Longhorns have let down their home crowd.
Leigh wouldn't go down easily and took Branham into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11.
Cooper Smith paced Leigh's offense, picking up 19 kills. Smith got some help from Eric Wu and his 41 assists. Finally, Smith was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high ten blocks.
Leigh's defeat dropped their record down to 26-9. As for Branham, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 28-10.
Leigh does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Branham, they will face off against International at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something the Bruins surely won't give up without a fight.
