Baseball Game Preview: St. Dominic Saints vs. Buckfield Bucks

St. Dominic is a perfect 3-0 against Buckfield since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Saints will look to defend their home field against the Bucks at 4:00 p.m. Buckfield took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Dominic, who comes in off a win.

If St. Dominic beats Buckfield with seven runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Saints sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Mount Abram on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saints have posted since May 15, 2024.

Curtis Wheeler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Nolan Cavers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Buckfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Old Orchard Beach, falling 14-4. That's two games in a row now that the Bucks have lost by exactly ten runs.

Buckfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonas Culleton, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Cody Litchfield also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Buckfield's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for St. Dominic, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6.

St. Dominic was able to grind out a solid win over Buckfield in their previous meeting back in April, winning 6-1. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bucks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
