The Toledo Christian Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Emmanuel Christian Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Toledo Christian is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
Toledo Christian managed to slip by North Central the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Toledo Christian lost 9-1 to North Central on Saturday.
Toledo Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Grace, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Emmanuel Christian). Everything went their way against Gorham Fayette on Monday as they made off with a 22-1 victory. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Ethan Sherban made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Emmanuel Christian is undefeated when Sherban posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Luke Carmody was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brandon Woodward was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Emmanuel Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Emmanuel Christian pushed their record up to 6-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Toledo Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Toledo Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Emmanuel Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Toledo Christian's way against Emmanuel Christian when the teams last played back in April, as Toledo Christian made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
