Softball Recap: Leavitt Wins Going Away Against Cape Elizabeth

Leavitt had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Cape Elizabeth on Friday. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Capers. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Hailey Turcotte made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavby Smith, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Boulay, who went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Leavitt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Elizabeth only posted a batting average of .259.

Leavitt's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Cape Elizabeth, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leavitt will venture away from home to challenge Gardiner at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cape Elizabeth, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mt. Ararat at 4:15 p.m. on May 5.
