Basketball Recap: Hughson Takes a Loss

Hughson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 61-43 to the Sonora Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 954th, while the Wildcats are ranked 444th).

Despite the loss, Hughson still got an impressive performance from Jackson Gehrke, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Gehrke is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kyle Young, who earned eight points.

Sonora's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Wright, who put up 17 points. That's the most points Wright has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Otterson, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Hughson's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Sonora, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Looking ahead, Hughson and Orestimba will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Hughson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season. As for Sonora, they and Ripon will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Ripon will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Sonora surely won't give up without a fight.
