Basketball Recap: Houlka Takes a Loss

Houlka fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Houston on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 64-63 to the Houston Hilltoppers. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hilltoppers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Houlka still got an impressive performance from Elijah Foster, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 16 boards. Foster has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Winter, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Houlka smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Jayden Knox continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Houston, going 7 of 15 on his way to 17 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylin Rogers, who posted ten points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Houlka's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Houston, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-5.

Houlka wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 71-48 win against Potts Camp on the 13th. As for Houston, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-50 loss against Calhoun City on the 13th.
