Basketball Game Preview: Anderson County Bulldogs vs. Santa Fe Trail Chargers

The Anderson County Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Santa Fe Trail Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Anderson County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Santa Fe Trail likes a good challenge.

Anderson County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging an 82-34 victory over Prairie View. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Buffalos are ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Anderson County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Noah Porter, who went 8 for 11 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. Porter's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brylan Sommer, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 18 points and six assists.

Anderson County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe Trail hadn't done well against Wellsville recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Santa Fe Trail strolled past Wellsville with points to spare, taking the game 61-47.

Anderson County pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Santa Fe Trail, their record now sits at 6-1.

Anderson County was able to grind out a solid victory over Santa Fe Trail when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 58-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Anderson County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
