Volleyball Recap: Centennial Cougars vs. Anoka Tornadoes
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Centennial can now relate to. They fell just short of the Anoka Tornadoes by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tornadoes apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September.
Centennial took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 26-28, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13.
Elena Hoecke paced Centennial's offense, picking up 19 kills. Hoecke got some help from
Chase Manthey and her 29 assists.
Aubrie Wirkkala controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Kate Trombley was a one-man wrecking crew for Anoka as she had 12 digs and a block. Trombley is also crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 13 every time she's taken the court this season.
The loss snapped Centennial's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 19-12 record. As for Anoka, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 22-7.
As of now, neither Centennial nor Anoka have any future games scheduled.
