Basketball Recap: Northampton Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Jaylen Anderson and Jasheem Collins

Northampton suffered their biggest loss since December 28, 2024 on Monday. They lost 101-75 to the Arcadia Firebirds. The Yellowjackets were down 78-51 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Northampton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jasheem Collins, who went 9-for-18 on his way to 26 points, and Jaylen Anderson, who went 9-for-20 to rack up 25 points in addition to six assists and five boards. With that strong performance, Anderson is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Malique Collins was another key player, putting up nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Northampton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arcadia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryheim Pettit, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 17 boards. The dominant performance gave Pettit a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Cropper, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Northampton's record is now 8-11. As for Arcadia, they pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northampton will head out to square off against Lancaster at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Northampton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Lancaster likes a good challenge. As for Arcadia, they are taking a road trip to face off against Southampton at 6:00 p.m. on February 25th. Southampton will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Arcadia surely won't give up without a fight.
