Softball Recap: Maynard's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Maynard dropped their record down to 8-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They lost 7-0 to the Advanced Math & Science Academy Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Advanced Math & Science Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.9 runs.

For Advanced Math & Science Academy's part, not much got past Ava McLeod, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Maynard off the board. McLeod has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Brooke Laudate and Madelyn Glynn did most of the damage at the plate: Laudate went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Glynn went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Laudate is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Sophia Hammell was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Looking ahead, Maynard is taking a road trip to challenge West Boylston at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.3, the Lions 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Advanced Math & Science Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Notre Dame Academy at 3:45 p.m.
