Softball Recap: New Bremen Wins Going Away Against Fort Loramie

New Bremen hadn't done well against Fort Loramie recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cardinals blew past the Redskins 12-4. For the Cardinals, this counts as revenge for the 9-3 win the Redskins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Lydia Bushman and Alayna Pape made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bushman pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Pape tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Bushman went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Pape went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Pape a new career-high.

In other batting news, Halle Kuenning and Abby Homan did most of the damage at the plate: Kuenning went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Homan went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Homan has posted since back in April. Olivia Thornton was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

New Bremen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Loramie only posted a batting average of .310.

The victory made it two in a row for New Bremen and bumps their season record up to 5-10. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 11.5 runs. As for Fort Loramie, they dropped their record down to 10-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, New Bremen will head out to take on Celina at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fort Loramie, they will square off against Fairborn at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
