Baseball Game Preview: Penn Kingsmen vs. Elkhart Lions

Penn has won seven straight games at home, while Elkhart has won seven straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Kingsmen will welcome the Lions at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Penn 1.9, Elkhart 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Penn is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Andrean, who was ranked fourth at the time (Penn was ranked third). The Kingsmen took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fighting 59ers on Saturday. The loss was the Kingsmen's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Elkhart was able to grind out a solid win over Northridge on Saturday, taking the game 8-4.

Greg Guest made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brady Sherwood was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Adrian Pettis, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Penn fell to 15-1. As for Elkhart, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-4.

Penn was able to grind out a solid win over Elkhart when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Do the Kingsmen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
