Softball Game Preview: Evangel Christian Lightning vs. Wiregrass Kings

Evangel Christian has gone a perfect 10-0 against Wiregrass recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Evangel Christian Lightning will face off against the Wiregrass Kings at 4:00 p.m. Evangel Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

Evangel Christian's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Trinity Christian Homeschool 20-0. The victory continues a trend for the Lightning in their matchups with Trinity Christian Homeschool: they've now won eight in a row.

Emma Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Makayla Cranford was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in home runs (two). Another player making a difference was Raylee Evans, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Evangel Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive matches.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Wiregrass and Ezekiel Academy, and Ezekiel Academy kept the tradition alive. Wiregrass came up short against Ezekiel Academy on Monday, falling 18-0. The Kings have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meetings.

Evangel Christian's record is now 7-4. As for Wiregrass, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Evangel Christian took their win against Wiregrass in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 14-4. Will Evangel Christian repeat their success, or does Wiregrass have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
